Acts 8:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
1 And Saul approved of their killing him.
The Church Persecuted and Scattered
On that day a great persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2 Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him.3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
After Stephen the First Christian Martyr was killed the church suffered great persecution. Saul killed many people. He opposed the Gospel perhaps thinking it was heresy.
But we praise God that this was not the end of the story. We know that the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to Saul and he was converted. Saul the persecutor became Paul the Apostle who was used greatly of God to preach the Gospel and plant churches.
Pray that those who are persecuting Christians today will have a similar change of heart and come to true faith in Jesus Christ.
