Matendo 2:14-21

Mahubiri Ya Petro

Roho Mtakatifu nguvu yetu;

Hapa Mungu alikuwa anajidhihirisha, maana ndipo Kanisa lilikuwa linazaliwa. Mungu alikuwa anatangaza kuwa Kanisa halitakuwepo bila Roho Mtakatifu. Sisi kama Kanisa lazima tuendelee kujazwa Roho Mtakatifu wakati wote, ili Kanisa lisiyumbe.

2. Neno la Mungu ndilo linalookoa. Mitume waliponena kwa lugha, hakuna aliyempokea Yesu, walibaki kushangaa. Petro akahubiri (mst 14 hadi 36), baada ya mahubiri watu wakampokea Yesu;

Matendo  2:37-38

3. Petro anatangaza unabii ya Yoeli kutimia.

Yoeli 2:28-29

28 Hata itakuwa, baada ya hayo, ya kwamba nitamimina roho yangu juu ya wote wenye mwili; na wana wenu, waume kwa wake, watatabiri, wazee wenu wataota ndoto, na vijana wenu wataona maono;

Nakutakia Jumamosi njema.

SATURDAY 29TH MAY 2021, MORNING

Acts 2:14-21  New International Version

Peter Addresses the Crowd

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 “‘In the last days, God says,
    I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
    your young men will see visions,
    your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
    I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
    and signs on the earth below,
    blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
    before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
    on the name of the Lord will be saved.’[a]

Footnotes

  1. Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32

The Holy Spirit is our strength;

It is the day of Pentecost, the Spirit comes down, and the apostles appear with tongues of fire and speak in tongues, until the congregation is amazed!

Then in this morning's lesson, Peter stands up and begins to address the congregation, telling them not to think that the apostles were drunk, for it was still early.

Verses 14 to 36 are Peter's speech on the day of Pentecost. There are things to look for though briefly.

1. The apostles spoke in tongues by the power of the Holy Spirit. Here God was manifesting Himself, for that is when the Church was born. God was declaring that the Church would not exist without the Holy Spirit. We as a Church must continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit at all times, so that the Church does not become corrupt.

2. The word of God is what saves. When the apostles spoke in tongues, no one received Jesus, they were amazed. Peter preached (vv. 14 to 36), after the sermon the people received Jesus;

Acts 2: 37-38

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

So what saves is the word of God. Speaking in tongues and other things does not save a person, but the word of God. We as a Church have a responsibility to read the word of God, but to emphasize the teachings of the word of God in the family, community and society at large.

3. Peter announces the fulfilment of Joel's prophecy.

Joel 2: 28-29

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

This is proof that God's promises are true. God's promise was fulfilled by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.

God has promised to be with us in life. This promise is real, it lives. We will abide in this promise by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I wish you a happy Saturday.
