WEDNESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY 2021 MORNING                                      

Psalm 139:1-12 New International Version (NIV)

1You have searched me, Lord,
    and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
    you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
    you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
You hem me in behind and before,
    and you lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?
    Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
    if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
    and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
    the night will shine like the day,
    for darkness is as light to you.

Psalm 139 is the meditational prayer on God who surrounds us with His presence, in which God has full knowledge of us. Apart from searching and knowing us, the important word is that, God who is the source of our existence knows us well than we are aware of ourselves. Even before we move our tongues to utter a single word, before knowing what we are about to say, everything is disclosed before Him.

From this Psalm we can learn the following:

i.   God knows everything (Omniscience):   (God knows me well)

ii. God is ever present everywhere (Omnipresent):  (God is ever with me)

iii. God is able to do anything according to His will (Omnipotent): (God is there for me)                                                                                 

Therefore, if God is for us, He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Ephesians 3:20)

Zaburi 139:1-12

1 Ee Bwana, umenichunguza na kunijua.
2 Wewe wajua kuketi kwangu na kuondoka kwangu; Umelifahamu wazo langu tokea mbali.
3 Umepepeta kwenda kwangu na kulala kwangu, Umeelewa na njia zangu zote.
4 Maana hamna neno ulimini mwangu Usilolijua kabisa, Bwana.
5 Umenizingira nyuma na mbele, Ukaniwekea mkono wako.
6 Maarifa hayo ni ya ajabu, yanishinda mimi, Hayadirikiki, siwezi kuyafikia.
7 Niende wapi nijiepushe na roho yako? Niende wapi niukimbie uso wako?
8 Kama ningepanda mbinguni, Wewe uko; Ningefanya kuzimu kitanda changu, Wewe uko.
9 Ningezitwaa mbawa za asubuhi, Na kukaa pande za mwisho za bahari;
10 Huko nako mkono wako utaniongoza, Na mkono wako wa kuume utanishika.
11 Kama nikisema, Hakika giza litanifunika, Na nuru inizungukayo ingekuwa usiku;
12 Giza nalo halikufichi kitu, Bali usiku huangaza kama mchana; Giza na mwanga kwako ni   sawasawa.

Zaburi ya 139 ni sala ya mtu anayetafakari juu ya Mungu anayemzunguka na uwepo wake, ambapo huyu Mungu anamfahamu vyema mwanadamu.  Pamoja na kutuchunguza na kutujua, lipo neno moja muhimu kwamba, yeye aliye asili ya uhai wetu anatujua vyema kuliko sisi tunavyojijua.  Hata kabla ya kuinua ndimi zetu kutaka kuunda neno, kabla hatujajua lile tunalotaka kusema, kila kitu kinajulikana mbele zake.

Katika Zaburi hii tunaweza kujifunza mambo yafuatayo:

i.   Mungu anajua mambo yote:   (Mungu ananijua vyema)

ii.  Mungu yupo mahali pote:  (Yuko pamoja nami)

iii.   Mungu ni mweza wa mambo yote: (yeye yupo kwa ajili yangu)

Hivyo, ikiwa Mungu yuko upande wetu, anaweza kufanya mambo ya ajabu mno kuliko yote tuyaombayo au tuyawazayo, kwa kadiri ya nguvu itandayo kazi ndani yetu.  (Waefeso 3:20)
