Philippians 2:1-4 New International Version (NIV)

1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

We should have the same humble and selfless attitude as Jesus Christ. True unity in the church cannot occur unless people are genuinely united with Jesus Christ. 

Paul gives us clear and practical advice on how to live with humility towards others. Firstly, he says, Regard one another as more important [or better] than yourselves.  We should feel neither inferior nor superior to anyone; and secondly, Do not look out for your own personal interests, but also the interests of others.

WAFILIPI 2:1-4

1 Basi ikiwako faraja yo yote katika Kristo, yakiwako matulizo yo yote ya mapenzi, ukiwako ushirika wo wote wa Roho, ikiwako huruma yo yote na rehema,
2 ijalizeni furaha yangu, ili mwe na nia moja, wenye mapenzi mamoja, wenye roho moja, mkinia mamoja.
3 Msitende neno lo lote kwa kushindana wala kwa majivuno; bali kwa unyenyekevu, kila mtu na amhesabu mwenziwe kuwa bora kuliko nafsi yake.
4 Kila mtu asiangalie mambo yake mwenyewe, bali kila mtu aangalie mambo ya wengine.

Tunahitaji kuwa na tabia ya unyenyekevu na kujitoa kwa wengine kama alivyofanya Yesu Kristo. Umoja wa kweli ndani ya Kanisa hauwezi kutokea isipokuwa watu wameungana na Yesu Kristo katika kweli.

Mtume Paulo anatupa ushauri wa wazi na kwa vitendo wa namna ya kuishi kwa kujishusha mbele ya wengine. Kwanza, anasema, mhesabu mwenzako kuwa wa muhimu au bora kuliko wewe mwenyewe. Hatupaswi kujiona bora au dhaifu mbele ya mwingine. Pili, usitafute mambo yako mwenyewe, bali pia mambo ya wengine.
