Luke 9:18-22 New International Version (NIV)
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah
18 Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say I am?”
19 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”
20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
Jesus Predicts His Death
21 Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. 22 And he said, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”
Peter made a very important declaration in saying that Jesus is God’s Messiah. This means that He is the Saviour who is predicted in the Jewish Scriptures. In order to be our Saviour Jesus had to die a horrible death on the cross bearing our sins. He then rose again from the dead proving that He had overcome sin and Satan’s power.
Thank God for His plan of salvation which is open for all. Trust in Jesus and obey Him in your life.

LUKA 9:18-22
18 Ikawa alipokuwa akisali kwa faragha, wanafunzi wake walikuwapo pamoja naye, akawauliza, Je! Makutano hao wanasema ya kuwa mimi ni nani?
19 Wakamjibu wakisema, Yohana Mbatizaji; lakini wengine, Eliya; na wengine kwamba mmojawapo wa manabii wa kale amefufuka.
20 Akawaambia, Nanyi mwasema ya kwamba mimi ni nani? Petro akamjibu akasema, Ndiwe Kristo wa Mungu.
21 Akawaonya, akawakataza wasimwambie mtu neno hilo;
22 akisema, Imempasa Mwana wa Adamu kupata mateso mengi, na kukataliwa na wazee na wakuu wa makuhani na waandishi, na kuuawa na siku ya tatu kufufuka.
Petro alitoa tamko muhimu sana wakati alipokiri kwamba Yesu Ndiwe Mesihi wa Mungu. Alijua kwamba Yesu ndie Mesihi aliyetabiriwa katika Maandiko Matakatifu ya Wayahudi.
Ili Yesu awe Mesihi na Mwokozi wetu ilibidii afe kifo cha aibu msalabani kubeba dhambi za ulimwengu. Siku ya tatu alifufuka kutoka wafu. Yesu alishinda dhambi na mauti na Shetani. Tumshukuru Mungu kwa wokovu katika Yesu Kristo. Tumwaminini na tumfuate na kumtii maisha yetu yote.
