Isaiah 23:1-8
1 A prophecy against Tyre: Wail, you ships of Tarshish! For Tyre is destroyed and left without house or harbor. From the land of Cyprus word has come to them.
2 Be silent, you people of the island and you merchants of Sidon, whom the seafarers have enriched.
3 On the great waters came the grain of the Shihor; the harvest of the Nilewas the revenue of Tyre, and she became the marketplace of the nations.
4 Be ashamed, Sidon, and you fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken: “I have neither been in labor nor given birth; I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.”
5 When word comes to Egypt, they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.
6 Cross over to Tarshish; wail, you people of the island.
7 Is this your city of revelry, the old, old city, whose feet have taken her to settle in far-off lands?
8 Who planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are renowned in the earth?
Tyre was a prosperous merchant town that pursued the pleasures of wealth and forgot about God. Isaiah warned the habitants of Tyre that God would destroy the city because of their sinful ways. Read up to Verse 18 to get the full picture.

Isaya 23:1-8
1 Ufunuo juu ya Tiro. Toeni sauti za uchungu, enyi merikebu za Tarshishi, kwa maana umeharibika kabisa, hata hapana nyumba, hapana mahali pa kuingia; toka nchi ya Kitimu wamefunuliwa habari.
2 Tulieni, enyi mkaao kisiwani; wewe ambaye wafanya biashara wa Sidoni, wavukao bahari, walikujaza.
3 Vitu vilivyopandwa, vya Shihori, mavuno ya Nile, yaliyokuja juu ya maji mengi, ndiyo pato lake, naye alikuwa soko la mataifa.
4 Tahayari, Ee Sidoni; kwa maana bahari imenena, hiyo ngome ya bahari ilisema, Sikuona utungu, wala sikuzaa, wala sikulea vijana, wala sikulea wanawali.
5 Habari itakapofika Misri wataona uchungu sana kwa sababu ya habari ya Tiro.
6 Piteni mpaka Tarshishi, enyi mkaao kisiwani, toeni sauti ya uchungu.
7 Je! Huu ndio mji wenu wa furaha, ambao mwanzo wake ulikuwako tangu siku za kale, ambao miguu yake ilimchukua akae mbali sana?
8 Ni nani aliyefanya shauri hili juu ya Tiro, uliotia watu taji, ambao wafanya biashara wake walikuwa wana wa wafalme, na wachuuzi wake ni watu wakuu wa dunia?
Mji wa Tiro ulifanikiwa sana kwa biashara. Watu wake walimsahau Mungu na kufuata starehe za mali zao. Isaya anawaonya kwamba Mungu atakuja kuuangamiza mji huo kwa kumwasi. Soma hadi msitari wa 18 kupata picha kamili.
