Joash Repairs the Temple
1 Joash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years of Jehoiada the priest. 3 Jehoiada chose two wives for him, and he had sons and daughters.
4 Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the Lord. 5 He called together the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go to the towns of Judah and collect the money due annually from all Israel, to repair the temple of your God. Do it now.” But the Levites did not act at once.
6 Therefore the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the Lord and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant law?”
7 Now the sons of that wicked woman Athaliah had broken into the temple of God and had used even its sacred objects for the Baals.
8 At the king’s command, a chest was made and placed outside, at the gate of the temple of the Lord.
This week we have been thinking about The Reformation. God used Dr Martin Luther to cause people to think about the true message of the Bible and to see that the church had corrupted the message of salvation as a gift from God obtained by faith and not by works.
God has uses different people at different times. In today’s passage we see how King Joash was used in his time to bring people back to God and to restore the Jewish Temple.
Pray that God would show you what He wants you to do to build His kingdom here on earth.

2 MAMBO YA NYAKATI 24:1-8
1 Yoashi alikuwa na umri wa miaka saba alipoanza kutawala; akatawala miaka arobaini huko Yerusalemu; na jina la mamaye aliitwa Sibia wa Beer-sheba.
2 Yoashi akafanya yaliyo mema machoni pa Bwana siku zote za Yehoyada kuhani.
3 Yehoyada akamwoza wake wawili, naye akazaa wana na binti.
4 Ikawa baada ya haya, Yoashi alikuwa na nia ya kuitengeneza nyumba ya Mungu.
5 Akawakusanya makuhani na Walawi, akawaambia, Nendeni mijini mwa Yuda, mkakusanye katika Israeli wote fedha, ili kuitengeneza nyumba ya Mungu wenu mwaka kwa mwaka, mkafanye bidii kuliharakisha neno hili. Walakini Walawi hawakuliharakisha.
6 Mfalme akamwita Yehoyada mkuu wao, akamwambia, Mbona hukuwataka Walawi waitoze Yuda na Yerusalemu kodi ya Musa mtumishi wa Bwana, na ya kusanyiko la Israeli, kwa ajili ya hema ya ushuhuda?
7 Kwa kuwa wana wa Athalia, yule mwanamke mwovu, walikuwa wameibomoa nyumba ya Mungu; na vitakatifu vyote vya nyumba ya Bwana wamewapatia mabaali.
8 Basi mfalme akaamuru, nao wakafanyiza kasha, wakaliweka nje langoni pa nyumba ya Bwana.
Wiki hii tunatafakari kuhusu Matengenezo ya Kanisa. Mungu alimwinua mtumishi wake Dr Martin Luther ili watu watafakari kuhusu ujumbe wa kweli la Biblia kuhusu wokovu. Alitaka watu kujua ukweli kwamba Wokovu ni zawadi kutoka Mungu na tunapata kwa njia ya Imani katika Yesu Kristo na si kwa kazi zetu.
Mungu anatumia watu mbalimbali kwa nyakati tofauti. Katika mistari ya leo tunasoma jinsi Mungu alimtumia Mfalme Yoashi kurudisha Wayahudi kwa Mungu na kukarabati Hekalu la Mungu.
Mwombe Mungu akuonyeshe anataka wewe ufanya nini kujenga Ufalme wake hapa duniani.
