David’s Prayer
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
18 “What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, 19 Lord. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
20 “There is no one like you, Lord, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
King David comes before the Lord in amazement. He wonders how the Lord gave him a place of honor (18). David praises God, and says there is no one like him, and there is no other God like him, as he has heard.
First; David teaches us that praise and glory belong to God alone. David did not give glory to the prophet Samuel who was sent to the house of Elder Jesse! He just gave it to God! How different it is when there are people who praise others, and those who are praised love to be truly praised! With David killing the Lion, killing Goliath, becoming king, he praises the Lord. He celebrates by the actions we sing all the time; "Glory be to God in the highest." Are we practically celebrating this song?
Second; David says there is no other God like you as we have heard with our ears. Here no doubt David heard God through his works, through his word.
When David confesses the praise and glory of God, he acknowledges the power of God's word, for we see God and hear him through his word. David heard the word of God, understood him, saw his greatness, and thus praised the power of his word. And by the power of the word he conquered.
And this morning we are called to remember that always, the one who deserves to be praised is no one else, only God. Through his word we see his greatness, so our victory is certain. Let us continue to read and obey his word, so that he will not fail us, for that is our security, his word in us.

1 Mambo ya Nyakati 17:16-20
Sala ya Daudi ya shukrani
16Kisha mfalme Daudi akaingia ndani ya hema na kuketi mbele ya Mwenyezi-Mungu, halafu akaomba, “Mimi ni nani, ee Mwenyezi-Mungu, na nyumba yangu ni nini hata unitukuze hivi? 17Isitoshe, umenifanyia mengine zaidi: Umenitolea ahadi juu ya vizazi vyangu vijavyo ee Mwenyezi-Mungu! 18Nikuambie nini zaidi, mimi Daudi mtumishi wako, kwa kunitukuza hivyo? Wewe unanijua mimi mtumishi wako. 19Ee Mwenyezi-Mungu, kwa ajili ya mtumishi wako na kwa kufuatana na moyo wako mwenyewe, umeyatenda hayo makuu yote, ili yajulikane hayo matendo makuu yote. 20Hakuna mwingine kama wewe, ee Mwenyezi-Mungu, na yote tunayoyasikia yanathibitisha kwamba hakuna Mungu mwingine ila wewe.
Daudi mfalme anakuja mbele za Bwana akistaajabu Fadhili zake. Anashangaa Bwana alivyompa nafasi ya heshima (18). Daudi anamsifu Mungu, na anasema hakuna kama yeye, na hakuna Mungu mwingine kama yeye, kwa kadri alivyosikia.
Kwanza; Daudi anatufundisha kuwa sifa na Utukufu ni kwa Mungu peke yake. Daudi hakumpa Utukufu nabii Samweli aliyetumwa nyumbani kwa Mzee Yese! Alimpa Mungu tu! Tofauti kabisa ambapo kuna watu wanawasifu wenzao, na hao wanaosifiwa wanapenda kusifiwa kweli! Pamoja na Daudi kuua Simba, kumuua Goliati, kuwa mfalme, yeye anamsifu Bwana. Anaadhimisha kwa vitendo tuimbavyo kila wakati; "Utukufu ni wa Mungu juu mbinguni". Sisi tunaadhimisha kwa vitendo wimbo huu?
Pili; Daudi anasema hakuna Mungu mwingine kama wewe kadri tulivyosikia kwa masikio yetu. Hapa bila shaka Daudi alimsikia Mungu kwa njia kazi zake, kupitia neno
lake. Daudi anapokiri sifa na Utukufu wa Mungu, anaikiri nguvu ya neno la Mungu, maana tunamuona Mungu na kumsikia kupitia neno lake. Daudi alisikia neno la Mungu, akamfahamu, akauona ukuu wake, hivyo anasifu nguvu ya neno lake. Na kwa nguvu ya neno alishinda.
Nasi asubuhi ya leo tunaitwa kukumbuka kuwa siku zote, anayestahili kusifiwa siyo mwingine yeyote, ni Mungu pekee. Kwa njia ya neno lake tunauona ukuu wake, hivyo ushindi wetu ni hakika. Tuendelee kulisoma na kulitii neno lake, ili asitupungukie, maana huo ndio usalama wetu, neno lake likiwa ndani yetu.
