FRIDAY 10TH AUGUST 2018 MORNING
Amos 1:1-5 New International Version (NIV)
1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash[a] was king of Israel.
2 He said:
“The Lord roars from Zion
and thunders from Jerusalem;
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Carmel withers.”
Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors
3 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Damascus,
even for four, I will not relent.
Because she threshed Gilead
with sledges having iron teeth,
4 I will send fire on the house of Hazael
that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.
5 I will break down the gate of Damascus;
I will destroy the king who is in[b] the Valley of Aven[c]
and the one who holds the scepter in Beth Eden.
The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,”
says the Lord.

Above we read the beginning of the book of the prophet Amos. He introduces himself and then announces God’s judgement of Israel’s neigbours, especially Damascus. They had behaved violently towards God’s people Israel and therefore God would judge them.
Let us think about how we treat other people whom we meet in various situations in our lives. Do we act with kindness and consideration? May God help us to be a blessing to people whom we meet today.

AMOSI 1:1-5
1 Maneno ya Amosii, aliyekuwa mmoja wa wachungaji wa Tekoa; maono aliyoyaona katika habari za Israeli, siku za Uzia, mfalme wa Yuda, na siku za Yeroboamu, mwana wa Yoashi, mfalme wa Israeli, miaka miwili kabla ya tetemeko la nchi.
2 Naye alisema, Bwana atanguruma toka Sayuni, Atatoa sauti yake toka Yerusalemu; Na malisho ya wachungaji yataomboleza, Na kilele cha Karmeli kitanyauka.
3 Haya ndiyo asemayo Bwana; Kwa makosa matatu ya Dameski, naam, kwa manne, sitaizuia adhabu yake isimpate; kwa sababu wameipura Gileadi kwa vyombo vya kupuria vya chuma;
4 lakini nitapeleka moto uingie katika nyumba ya Hazaeli, nao utayateketeza majumba ya Ben-hadadi.
5 Nami nitalivunja komeo la Dameski, na kuwakatilia mbali wenyeji wa bondeni mwa Aveni, na yeye aishikaye fimbo ya enzi katika Beth-Adini; na watu wa Shamu watakwenda hali ya kufungwa hata Kiri, asema Bwana.
Tunasoma juu Mwanzo wa kitabu cha Nabii Amosi. Kwanza anajitambulisha. Halafu anatangaza hukumu ya Mungu juu ya majirani wa Israeli. Mungu anatoa hukumu kwa sababu ya matendo yao maovu ya kutesa watu wa Israeli. Hasa Dameski imetajwa.
Tafakari kuhusu matendo yako kwa majirani zako na watu unaokutana nao. Unawatendea mema? Unahurumia wenye shida? Mungu atusaidie kuwa watu wema leo na siku zote.
