John 15:1-8 New International Version (NIV)
The Vine and the Branches
1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

We cannot do the Lord's work without having Christ in us. In today's verses, Jesus compares his followers to branches of a vine that if cut off, it dries and withers. In addition, Christians should bear good fruit in the work of the Lord, in other words, our actions should be in harmony with the teaching of Christ.

Mzabibu Wa Kweli
1 ‘Mimi ni mzabibu wa kweli na Baba yangu ndiye mkulima. 2 Kila tawi ndani yangu lisilozaa matunda, Baba yangu hulikata; na kila tawi lizaalo, yeye hulisafisha ili lipate kuzaa matunda zaidi. 3 Ninyi mmekwisha kuwa safi kwa sababu ya mafundisho nili yowapa. 4 Kaeni ndani yangu nami nikae ndani yenu. Kama vile tawi lisivyoweza kuzaa matunda pasipo kuwa sehemu ya mzabibu, vivyo hivyo, ninyi msipokaa ndani yangu hamwezi kufanya lo lote. 5 Mimi ni mzabibu; ninyi ni matawi; anayekaa ndani yangu nami ndani yake, huyo huzaa matunda mengi sana; maana pasipo mimi ninyi hamwezi kufanya lo lote. 6 Mtu asipokaa ndani yangu hutupwa nje kama tawi na kunyauka. Matawi hayo hukusanywa na kutupwa motoni, yakateketea. 7 Ninyi mkikaa ndani yangu na maneno yangu yakikaa ndani yenu, ombeni lo lote mtakalo nanyi mtatendewa. 8 Mnapozaa matunda kwa wingi Baba yangu anatukuzwa, na hivyo mnadhihirisha kuwa ninyi ni wanafunzi wangu.
Hatuwezi kufanya kazi ya Bwana bila kuwa na Kristo ndani yetu. Katika mistari ya leo, Yesu anafananisha wafuasi wake na matawi ya mzabibu ambayo yakikatwa hunyauka. Aidha wakristo tunatakiwa kuzaa matunda mema kwenye kazi ya Bwana, kwa maneno mengine, matendo yetu yafanane na mafundisho ya Kristo.
