SUNDAY 29TH JANUARY 2017
THEME: GOD PROTECTS US BY HIS POWER
Psalm 32:1-8, Matthew 10:16-23, Jeremiah 32:16-27
Psalm 32:1-8
Of David. A maskil.[a]
1 Blessed is the one
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the one
whose sin the Lord does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.
3 When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night
your hand was heavy on me;
my strength was sapped
as in the heat of summer.[b]
5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
the guilt of my sin.
6 Therefore let all the faithful pray to you
while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
will not reach them.
7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Footnotes:
- Psalm 32:1 Title: Probably a literary or musical term
- Psalm 32:4 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here and at the end of verses 5 and 7.
Matthew 10:16-23 New International Version (NIV)
16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 22 You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 23 When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
Jeremiah 32:16-27 New International Version (NIV)
16 “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord:
17 “Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.18 You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, 19 great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve. 20 You performed signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this day, in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is still yours. 21 You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror. 22 You gave them this land you had sworn to give their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey. 23 They came in and took possession of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law; they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster on them.
24 “See how the siege ramps are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague, the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said has happened, as you now see. 25 And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, you, Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field with silver and have the transaction witnessed.’”
26 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 27 “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?
In his prayer the prophet Jeremiah reminds God of His mighty deeds on behalf of Israel. He also acknowledges that Israel has sinned and rebelled against God and this is the reason for their punishment. Jeremiah asks God for guidance and God reminds Jeremiah that nothing is too hard for God. God is able to protect Jeremiah.
God is willing and able to protect us when we come to Him in obedience and humility.
JUMAPILI TAREHE 29 JANUARI 2017
WAZO KUU: TUNALINDWA NA NGUVU ZA MUNGU
Zaburi 32:1-8, Mathayo 10:16-23, Yeremia 32:16-27
Zaburi 32:1-8
1 Heri aliyesamehewa dhambi, Na kusitiriwa makosa yake.
2 Heri Bwana asiyemhesabia upotovu, Ambaye rohoni mwake hamna hila.
3 Niliponyamaza mifupa yangu ilichakaa Kwa kuugua kwangu mchana kutwa.
5 Nalikujulisha dhambi yangu, Wala sikuuficha upotovu wangu.
17 Jihadharini na wanadamu; kwa maana watawapeleka mabarazani, na katika masinagogi yao watawapiga;
Yeremia 32:16-27
16 Hata nikiisha kumpa Baruku, mwana wa Neria, hati ile ya kununua, nalimwomba Bwana, nikisema,
17 Aa! Bwana MUNGU, tazama, wewe umeziumba mbingu na nchi, kwa uweza wako mkuu na kwa mkono wako ulionyoshwa; hapana neno lililo gumu usiloliweza;
18 wewe uwarehemuye watu elfu nyingi, uwalipaye baba za watu uovu wao vifuani mwa watoto wao baada yao; Mungu aliye mkuu, aliye hodari, Bwana wa majeshi ndilo jina lake;
20 wewe uliyeweka ishara na ajabu katika nchi ya Misri hata siku hii ya leo, katika Israeli na kati ya watu wengine; na kujifanyia jina kama ilivyo leo;
21 ukawatoa watu wako, Israeli, katika nchi ya Misri, kwa ishara, na kwa ajabu, na kwa mkono hodari, na kwa mkono ulionyoshwa, na kwa utisho mkuu;
22 ukawapa nchi hii, uliyowaapia baba zao kwamba utawapa, nchi iliyojaa maziwa na asali;
23 nao wakaingia, wakaimiliki; lakini hawakuitii sauti yako, wala hawakuenda katika sheria yako; hawakutenda neno lo lote katika haya uliyowaagiza wayatende; basi, kwa sababu hii umeleta juu yao mabaya haya yote;
