The Lord Calls Samuel
1 The boy Samuel ministered before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; there were not many visions.
2 One night Eli, whose eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in his usual place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel.
Samuel answered, “Here I am.” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.
8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11 And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.
This is the famous passage about God calling Samuel. He was called to serve God when he was still a young boy after his mother Hannah dedicated him to God. Samuel became a great prophet in Israel.
Let us pray for our children and commit them to God even before they are born. If God has blessed you with children do your best to bring them up to know and love God. If you don’t have children of your own you may be a God parent, or an aunt or uncle or Sunday School teacher. May God help you to bring His word to children and young people.

1 SAMWELI 3:1-11
1 Basi, mtoto Samweli akamtumikia Bwana mbele ya Eli. Na neno la Bwana lilikuwa adimu siku zile; hapakuwa na mafunuo dhahiri.
2 Ikawa wakati huo, Eli alipokuwa amelala mahali pake (tena macho yake yalikuwa yameanza kupofuka, hata asiweze kuona),
3 na taa ya Mungu ilikuwa haijazimika bado, na Samweli alikuwa amelala katika hekalu la Bwana, palipokuwa na sanduku la Mungu;
4 basi, wakati huo Bwana akamwita Samweli; naye akasema, Mimi hapa.
5 Akamwendea Eli kwa haraka, akasema, Mimi hapa; kwa maana uliniita. Akasema, Sikukuita; kalale tena. Naye akaenda, akalala tena.
6 Bwana akaita mara ya pili, Samweli! Samweli! Akaondoka akamwendea Eli, akasema, Mimi hapa; kwa maana uliniita. Akajibu, Sikukuita, mwanangu; kalale tena.
7 Basi Samweli alikuwa hamjui Bwana bado, na neno la Bwana lilikuwa bado halijafunuliwa kwake.
8 Bwana akamwita Samweli mara ya tatu. Naye akaondoka akamwendea Eli, akasema, Mimi hapa; kwa maana uliniita. Ndipo Eli akatambua ya kuwa Bwana ndiye aliyemwita yule mtoto.
9 Kwa hivyo Eli akamwambia Samweli, Enenda, kalale; itakuwa, akikuita, utasema, Nena, Bwana; kwa kuwa mtumishi wako anasikia. Basi Samweli akaenda akalala mahali pake.
10 Bwana akaja, akasimama, akaita vile vile kama kwanza, Samweli! Samweli! Ndipo Samweli akasema, Nena, Bwana; kwa kuwa mtumishi wako anasikia.
11 Bwana akamwambia Samweli, Angalia, nitatenda tendo katika Israeli, ambalo kila atakayelisikia masikio yake yatamwasha.
Somo hapo juu inatuelezea kuhusu wito wa Samweli. Mama wa Samweli alimkabidhi kwa Mungu na alikuwa anatumika hekaluni tangu utotoni. Japokuwa likuwa bado hajamfahamu Mungu, Mungu alimwita. Badaye Samweli alikuwa Nabii maarufu kule Israeli.
Tujali watoto na tujitahidi kuwalea katika maadili ya Kiristo. Tuwaombee watoto wetu mara kwa mara hata kabla hawajazaliwa. Pia tuwaombee watoto wengine wa ndugu na marafiki na majirani na wa sharika yetu.
