1 Samuel 24:16-22 New International Version (NIV)
16 When David finished saying this, Saul asked, “Is that your voice, David my son?” And he wept aloud. 17 “You are more righteous than I,” he said. “You have treated me well, but I have treated you badly. 18 You have just now told me about the good you did to me; the Lord delivered me into your hands, but you did not kill me. 19 When a man finds his enemy, does he let him get away unharmed? May the Lord reward you well for the way you treated me today. 20 I know that you will surely be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hands. 21 Now swear to me by the Lord that you will not kill off my descendants or wipe out my name from my father’s family.”
22 So David gave his oath to Saul. Then Saul returned home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.
When you read from the beginning of this chapter, you will see Saul chose the best men from Israel to hunt down and kill David. But when Saul fell into David's hands and expected to be killed, David forgave him and swore not to harm his descendants. To forgive your enemy in this manner is truly divine. Will you forgive those who have wronged you however deep?

16 Ikawa, Daudi alipokwisha kumwambia Sauli maneno hayo Sauli alisema, Hii ndiyo sauti yako, Daudi, mwanangu? Naye Sauli akapaza sauti yake, akalia.
17 Akamwambia Daudi, Wewe u mwenye haki kuliko mimi; maana wewe umenitendea mema, nami nimekutenda mabaya.
18 Nawe umeonyesha leo jinsi ulivyonitendea mema, kwani Bwana aliponitia mikononi mwako, hukuniua.
19 Maana mtu akimwona adui yake, je! Atamwacha aende zake salama? Basi Bwana na akulipe mema kwa haya uliyonitendea leo.
20 Na sasa, angalia, najua ya kuwa hakika utakuwa mfalme, na ufalme wa Israeli utafanyika imara mkononi mwako.
21 Basi sasa, uniapie kwa Bwana, ya kwamba hutawakatilia mbali wazao wangu baada yangu, wala hutaliharibu jina langu katika mbari ya baba yangu.
22 Naye Daudi akamwapia Sauli. Kisha Sauli akaenda zake kwao; lakini Daudi na watu wake wakapanda kwenda ngomeni.
Unaposoma tangu mwanzo wa sura hii, utaona Sauli alichagua wanaume bora kutoka Israeli kuwinda na kumwua Daudi. Lakini Sauli alipoingia mikononi mwa Daudi na kutarajia kuuawa, Daudi alimsamehe na akaapa kwamba hatadhuru wazao wake. Kusamehe adui yako kwa namna hii ni kweli ya Mungu. Je, utawasamehe wale waliokukosea hata iwe vibaya sana?
